asana
Asana Yoga is a form of yoga comprising of physical postures that are practiced together with deep breathing to allow a full and deep relaxation of the body, while increasing blood flow and oxygen to the area being worked on. Asana will also strengthen, balance and stabilize the body. Using different movements and postures, the Asana practice uses the physical body as a primary focus for integration. It has certain therapeutic effects, even going so far as to gently massage the internal organs. The mental well-being of the student is also enhanced as each posture requires the student to incorporate proper breathing and mental concentration. Not only will you feel more physically fit, you will also experience clarity of mind. It also helps to cure disorders of the nervous system; generally bringing peace of mind.
For an effective Asana practice that results in steadiness and comfort, strength and flexibility,
- Understand and appreciate the connection between your body, breath and mind.
- Evaluate your resistance to the proposed practice in terms of your body, breath and mind.
Use your breath to recognize and reduce resistance, to evaluate the intelligence of your effort, and to determine whether you are accomplishing your aim.

About the Teachers.....
SuDehPa Stoney Tham is a very experienced yoga teacher who has taught yoga full-time since 1998. Her students learn yoga with her over the years and have shown significant improvement in their overall well-being through consistent yoga practice. By focusing on self-awareness, i.e. being mindful of the moment and being in touch with our body, Sudehpa support her students to know themselves better, while they experience incresed flexibility and strength.
In 2005, SuDehPa develop Motion 5, a range of motion exercises which combines the Western medical model with Eastern-based yoga and qigong. She went on a Chinese morning programme to demonstrate Motion 5 to help stroke patients regain mobility. To improve herself in the field of yoga, SuDehPa goes for yearly training with her guru in India. In addition, she makes keen observation during her yoga classes and explores other types of alternative therapies. With all these studies and teaching experience, she offers mind and body health consultancy to people with health issues. Besides applying specific yoga posture and prescribing herbal tea to address health issues such as bloating and insomnia, her consultations also include dietary recommendations and lifestyle changes to achieve optimum therapeutic effects. In the past couple of years, SuDehPa has used this customised therapy programme successfully with cancer patients, helping them to reduce their pain and improve their health.
SuDehPa is also a spiritual retreat organizer to India
and Nepal. She brings groups to these places twice a
year and provides them the experience of the great
nature and vegetarian diet. With yoga, meditation and
sharing of stress management techniques throughout the
10-day retreat, participants return home feeling
rejuvenated, inspired and revitalized.
Last but not least, SuDehPa is an active volunteer,
both in Singapore as a counsellor to inmates and a
volunteer teacher with Dover Park Hospice as well as
in Nepal, where she leads volunteers on a school
project ( Little Sunshine ) for the past 7 years.
Besides improving the general facilities and the
school environment, the group also provides free text
books and sets up a library ( Little Sunshine Library
) in a nearby village in Nagarkot in Mar 2008
